What is a calcium chloride desiccant?

calcium chloride desiccant

What are desiccant bags

Starting with the most basic definition, a desiccant is a substance that absorbs moisture. It is most commonly used to remove moisture that would normally degrade or even destroy moisture-sensitive products. As oxygen absorbers are to air, desiccants are to moisture. This means that if left unprotected in a damp place, the items may develop mold and mildew, and if a small pillow or a pack of desiccant is stored on the boat, then these items will be safe. There are many types of desiccants. Wikipedia gives us a lengthy list of desiccants, but instead of burdening myself, I asked my friend Ron Brown to share his knowledge of desiccants and how he uses various types of this amazing experimental results of things. Here are some of what he shared with me.

Some common and uncommon desiccants

  • Silica gel: Silica gel is one of the more common desiccants. Crafty types use it to dry flowers and other items. As with other desiccants, as moisture evaporates from the flowers, it is absorbed by the gel, drying them for future generations. Silicone packets containing pills, over-the-counter medicines and vitamins were also found. What many people don’t know is that they can be reused if you dry them in the oven on low heat.
  • Salt: Salt is a drying agent. If it clumps in the shaker and doesn’t come out, it means it has absorbed moisture from the air and the small salt grains have stuck together. To prevent clumping, add calcium silicate to table salt.
  • Rice: Add rice to the salt shaker to keep the salt flowing freely. So if salt is a desiccant, maybe rice is a stronger desiccant.
  • Calcium Chloride: Experts said that they completely ruined a pair of leather shoes, using a shovel to scatter chloride from the back of a flatbed truck (to minimize the dust kicked up) during their college summer job CA, Road Construction Day.
  • Paris cement and gypsum: Paris cement and gypsum are both “calcined” at high temperatures and will gradually harden if placed around the garage. They absorb moisture from the air. They are desiccants.
  • Drywall or Wallboard: Ever heard of the Kearney Radiometer? When building the Kearny radiometer to detect radiation, Kearney himself said that you have to put a desiccant in your cell to keep the atmosphere as dry as possible. In his original radiometer instructions, he described how to make his own desiccant from drywall. He recommends a piece of wallboard or drywall, which has been broken into half-inch cubes and dried in the oven. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work (Ron tried it). His guess is that the “plasterboard” has changed over the years. There is no doubt that builders prefer siding that does not absorb moisture over siding that absorbs moisture.

Why calcium chloride?

  • Calcium chloride desiccant bags are very effective at absorbing moisture from the surrounding air and is one of the most hygroscopic materials.
  • Calcium chloride is an inorganic compound – a salt with the chemical formula CaCl2. White flakes or granules at room temperature, easily soluble in water. Calcium chloride desiccants work well in temperatures ranging from freezing to 80 °C or higher.
  • Calcium chloride is commonly used as a deicing agent for gravel roads and foods, for removing dust, or as an absorbent for desiccants. In much of the world, calcium chloride is extracted from limestone as a by-product of the Solvay process.
  • Calcium chloride is not harmful to the environment, but is classified as H319 according to GHS (which causes serious eye irritation).
  • Calcium chloride is available in various concentrations and is usually specified as 74-77% or 94-97% depending on the level of purity. The higher the concentration, the higher the absorption capacity. This means that desiccants containing 94-97% CaCl2 have the ability to absorb more water than 74-77% CaCl2.

Absortech uses calcium chloride as an absorbent in our desiccants because it is more efficient than other types of desiccants such as silica gel and clay desiccants.

Born superior

It can attract several times its own weight in water, and if the air is humid enough and the temperature is hot enough, it will dissolve into liquid brine. Liquid brine is either collected in a collector or mixed with modified starch to form a gel within its packaging.

Absorptive capacity

Calcium chloride desiccants absorb more moisture when the relative humidity (RH) of the surrounding air is high. And its absorption increases exponentially with increasing relative humidity, a remarkable result compared to other desiccants such as silica gel and clay.

Sustainable choice

Other desiccants may include toxic substances. For example, silica gel with an indicator can include cobalt, a toxic substance. Calcium chloride, on the other hand, is a natural product and has no negative impact on the environment. However, the main environmental advantage of using calcium chloride desiccants compared to other types of desiccants is, of course, that these desiccants are more efficient, so the amount and weight of desiccant used for the same protection is much lower. By choosing the most efficient desiccant, you can save a lot of plastic, transport and CO2 emissions. Reducing carbon dioxide emissions is one of the most important challenges facing our future.

How to go About Building Your Dream House?

Dream House

Are you looking for a way to build your dream house with perfection? Choosing Custom Home Builders might be the right choice for you.

If you are one of the lucky ones on the path to building that dream house, you must do so carefully and reconsider all the factors.

Choosing the best home builders among many in Orange, NSW, can be simplified. We’ve put together a variety of factors to look out for before you step into the game.

  1. Pre-Contractual Research

Before settling for a home builder, it is essential to have a little data on their work. You can get an idea of the kind of work they are in by checking their past work and designs.

You can even bag some tips and recommendations from homeowners. The process will simplify your preferences and help you dissipate unwanted designs.

  1. Keep an Eye Out for Details

Creative ideas are common, but the problem arises with expressing them in 3D. This is why details are the key.

Getting a 3D-printed model for the design might help with the work because it is not easy to come up with builder-friendly models. Only complete and standard floor plans are very problematic, and this can lead to costly mistakes.

It is essential to partner up with those who will give you a complete layout of the plans and a blueprint of the execution strategy.

  1. Clear Communications from the Start

Excellent and clear communication between you and the home builder is critical. Both parties must be clear about the ideas and intentions of the other person. Otherwise, it will lead to damaging effects because of simple misunderstandings.

Always make sure to communicate everything before the physical work starts. Lay out a structured plan for your demands and customizations. Ask for clarifications on the grey areas and suggest your preferences candidly.

  1. Current Building Codes and State Certifications

Local and federal building requirements are ever-changing. Your dream house might only be accepted if it is within Orange city’s customs.

Always make sure to communicate with your home builder clearly regarding this issue. Also, verify your builder’s professional and custom certifications through your state.

  1. Go for Matching, Budget-Friendly Styles

If you find your home builder changes their plans after hearing your intentions, then that’s a no-go.

Find yourself a home builder that resonates with your ideas. Exploring different custom homes can help you decide the kind of house you want. Always ask for a quote for your custom home. This will help you get an estimate of the overall expenses and decide on a budget accordingly.

Make sure to weigh all your financing options and estimate the insurance coverage by your builder.

  1. Look into Design Experience and Reviews

Before hiring a custom home builder, check out their building experience. Ask for reviews on their services, or check them out on the internet.

It is imperative to keep the architecture, landscape, custom design and the surrounding in mind before moving forward with a plan.

Last Thoughts

Investing in a home is always a good idea. Having a place you call home is an achievement in itself.

With enough research and the right intentions, you can land the most beautiful house in the neighbourhood. Follow the tips mentioned above and get Custom Home Builders that suit you the best.

Art of engraved bricks for your next fundraising campaign

Art of engraved bricks

The art of engraved bricks is a centuries-old tradition that takes craftsmanship and lettering to a whole new level. If you’re looking for an ornate accent or something special for your home, engraved bricks are the perfect solution. This blog post will explore the different types of engraved bricks on the market and how you can choose the right one for your needs. We will also provide tips on using them correctly and creating beautiful marks that will last for years.

What are engraved bricks?

Engraved bricks are placed in public places to commemorate important events or people. They are often used as memorials and can be bought commercially or made by hand throughout the United States.

Bricks are typically made of clay, terra cotta, or marble. They are often decorated with images of people or animals and have the name of the person or event inscribed on them. Many bricks are donated by private individuals or organizations. They sometimes become part of a public park or memorial fundraising within an organization that may directly benefit a charity or any desired cause of an organization. Brick Markers’ engraved bricks and tiles are a great way to appreciate donors and provide renovation simultaneously. There are many ways you can use these for raising funds and a lot to gain a business reputation from the process.

How do engraved bricks work?

Engraved bricks are small brick materials engraved with a business’s name or logo. The bricks are then placed on the ground, commonly at any entrance, to mark the spot for a particular donor, showing participation in a specific project.

How to get started with engraved bricks?

If you’re thinking about getting started with engraved bricks, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, you’ll need to purchase a set of vinyl bricks if you want to use this for anything other than personalized brick gifts. Second, depending on your ink and brick type, it may take a few tries to get the desired markings. Finally, ensure you have enough ink so your bricks will last through several projects!

To start, purchase a set of vinyl bricks from your local craft store or online retailer. If using the brick markers for any purpose other than personalized brick gifts, you’ll need to seal the engraved bricks before use. To do this, place the engraved bricks in a bowl of hot water for 30 seconds or until they are sealed. After sealing the bricks, ensure they are fully dry before using them; otherwise, they may not print correctly.

Depending on your ink and brick type, it may take a few tries to get the desired markings. Be patient, though—the end result is worth it! Once you have gotten used to printing, make sure you have plenty of ink left so that your bricks will last through several projects.

Engraved bricks have long been popular among businesses for the intricate designs and details that can be etched into bricks. Bricks are available in multiple styles, with a wide range of prices, so there’s sure to be one that fits your budget. Whether you’re looking for a simple logo or something more complex, brick markers offer an easy way to add personality and interest to your bricks.
