7 ways to deal with the blues

Perhaps it is the season, perhaps you are in a rut in life, or perhaps you have experienced something sad that has gotten the mood so blue.

Feeling depressed from time to time is a very normal thing. It is problematic when the blues become more frequent a disposition, and when you wallow in sadness.

Melancholy not only affects your mood but also impairs your mental and physical health. It is therefore imperative that you consciously chase away the blues.

1. Exercise

Doesn’t time fly when you are having fun? So, why don’t you have more fun?

Pick a hobby that you enjoy, that puts a smile on your face, and start doing it religiously. Not only will it help to expand your skill set, but it is also great for destressing.

It is even more important for people who are feeling the blues because of monotonous life. Or for those having ample time at hand, making them feel bored and dissatisfied as a result.

5. Sunshine

Sun is an excellent source of vitamin D, the deficiency of which has grave implications for your mood.

Moreover, lack of sunlight itself has also been linked to depression and is known as SAD (seasonal affective disorder). It is also referred to as winter blues.

Thus, be sure to get adequate sunlight, however, do not forget to simultaneously wear sunscreen.

6. Positive outlook

Negativity breeds negative emotions. Therefore, try to join the glass-is-half-full club. Actively channel positive energy because you attract the energy that you send out in the world. When feeling stressed, take stock of all the positives in your life, so you can focus on the good.

Mindfulness is also an effective tool for channeling a positive outlook.
