Traditional Korean snacks

South Korea is undoubtedly a food paradise. No matter what you want to eat, whether it’s a bowl of piping hot stewed tofu or ready-to-eat egg bread, you can buy it almost anywhere. Aside from the meals you can buy almost anywhere, traditional Korean snacks are also a hit to both locals and foreigners. Some of these good snacks have a rich and colorful history and are even served in the royal court, and some were invented and made popular because of their unique flavors. In this article we’ll be discussing the traditional snacks you should try when you visit South Korea.

Dalgona Candy

Also known as Ppopgi, is a crunchy, sweet, toffee-like old-school candy that many Koreans loved in their childhood. In the past, stalls selling dalgona on the streets of Seoul were very common, but the number has been slowly decreasing over the years.

Dalgona candy is made up of only two ingredients: sugar and baking soda, stirring as little as possible. The weekend is a good parent-child bonding event, especially for parents who have no way to let their children be. Before the sugar mixture cools and hardens, prepare cookie cutters of different shapes and make different patterns on the candy.

Hotteok

Hotteok or Korean pancakes are popular street food that’s essentially pancakes stuffed with brown sugar, cinnamon, nuts, and seeds. The pancake dough is made with a mixture of ordinary rice flour and glutinous rice flour. It is chewy on the inside and crispy on the outside when it is fried. Different stalls have different kinds of flavors and add-ons, but honey and brown sugar are classic flavors that can never go wrong.

Korean honey cookies

Korean honey cookies or also known as “Yakgwa” is a type of traditional honey biscuit that’s shaped like a flower. These cookies are usually eaten during special occasions like “Chuseok”, but nowadays you can find them at bakeries and cafes being served with coffee or tea which compliments the taste of these cookies. When “Yakgwa” is translated into English, “yak” means medicine and “gwa” means sweet pertaining to the health benefits and sweetness of honey. This type of cookie is fried, not baked, and is made with simple ingredients like sesame seeds, honey, rice wine, and ginger. Korean honey cookies are also good to give as gifts for family and friends.

Pine rice cakes(Songpyeon)

Rice cakes, also known as tteok, are a staple food in Korean cuisine. In addition to savory dishes such as tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) and tteokguk (rice cake soup), you can also find it in desserts. For example, songpyeon is a very popular dessert, usually eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival(Chuseok). Songpyeon is commonly filled with red bean paste and comes in a variety of colors and shapes. These colors are from natural ingredients such as cinnamon and dried fruit powders. It is said that it represents wealth and prosperity, and many families still gather to make this traditional Korean snack during the Mid-Autumn Festival.

This is why we have prepared your 3-step guide on how to locate the breakfast hotspots of Sydney. Don’t worry, there’s plenty of food even before the rooster starts his day.

So, here’s how to choose restaurants in Silverwater for an early bite.

1. Decide on what kind of breakfast:

What are you feeling like today? Seafood? Italian? Make a choice and caste your ballot. Now, based on the food you feel like going for, there are multiple options in the Silverwater corner of Sydney. What if you can’t decide? In that case, you need to pick a place that serves everything. Bar and Grill Waterview is for this reason among the best restaurants in Silverwater. They offer something for everyone and their steak is a specialty. Not only is this place great for a date or a corporate hangout, it really comes in its real form during the non-rush hours, when you can truly be at peace and contemplate on life and such as you take a delicious while off from the rush of your day.

2. Pick a place with a view:

Breakfast is the first meal of the day, and if that is done right, we are sure the course for the whole day is going to be right as well. This is why you have to start your day with a view. Perhaps the water banks as the sun rises would be a good backdrop, with not much noise and traffic. This is why Silverwater restaurants that offer a water view make for a luxe and creme delight.

3.Some Options may not be available:

There are certain items, which don’t go well as a breakfast, for instance, caviar. So, one has to be okay with the fact that certain items that are listed on the menu are not going to be the best fit for a breakfast. Moreover, some items, especially in the premium restaurants of Silverwater,

do require an advanced booking and the MasterChef too has few defined available slots for the day. Those items too shall be discarded while looking for breakfast.

When you are going out for a breakfast, it is always advisable to call up the place hours before you plan on going. Sometimes, the opening hours data on Google might not be accurate. This is why to avoid any disappointment, you should contact the staff and enquire. If you plan on calling up the night before, you might not receive a response. Call up during working hours, preferably on weekdays, to ensure that your call is met and answered by the right appointed person.

Moreover, before you commence the drive to the spot, make sure you have a backup plan too. Sometimes, you may be surprised to find out a place with great reviews is lousy and not at its best when it is just opening up.

Know the areas you can visit nearby, in case the restaurant doesn’t work out. If you are more into street food, you would find that western Sydney is far more active during night.

For a breakfast, you should research well and pick a safe spot that is sure to be open and active during the mornings.

Coffee Amount

Coffee is loved by millions globally. Life’s hard without coffee, whether you’re sprinting out post-spin class to recharge with a skinny latte or cradling a coffee mug on your way to the office. The caffeine boosts your senses, and there’s something amazingly relaxing about sipping a hot cup of joe.

The good news is that coffee’s case is stronger than before. Research and studies indicate that the benefits of mushroom coffee (and other coffee types) are many. This refreshing beverage is chock-full of stuff that can help shield against common female conditions like heart diseases and Alzheimer’s.

Here are 5 reasons why the right amount of coffee can benefit you.

Helps to Live Longer

A large-scale study of over half a million people found that coffee drinkers had a slightly lower risk of death compared to those who didn’t imbibe. And the more coffee they drank, the greater the benefit. Those who downed between two and three cups a day were 12 percent less expected to die over the 14-year study period compared to the ones who abstained from java all together.

According to the researchers, coffee contains antioxidants and other beneficial compounds that could help keep cells healthy, or it could affect how the body metabolizes sugar and fat.

It Can Boost Your Workout Sessions

Coffee is a go-to beverage for many athletes and gym rats for a reason: Caffeine gives you an edge. In fact, studies have found that coffee can improve performance during endurance activities, and help with short bursts of activity, too.

A study of cyclists found that coffee improved their time trial performance by an average of 5 percent. Researchers believe the caffeine in coffee blocks adenosine, a compound that builds up in muscles during exercise and makes them feel tired.

It Protects Your Brain

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, and it’s on the rise as baby boomers age. There is no cure, and treatments can only do so much to slow the progression of the disease.

But coffee can be beneficial for lowering your risk of developing Alzheimer’s or other types of dementia.

A recent study revealed that folks who consumed three to five cups of coffee a day were 65 percent less likely to develop Alzheimer’s than those who didn’t consume any caffeine at all.

Coffee may also help stave off Parkinson’s disease, another degenerative neurological disorder. Research suggests that folks who drink four or more cups of coffee a day are up to 80 percent less likely to develop Parkinson’s.

It Can Ease Depression

Depression is a serious mental health condition that can take a toll on every aspect of your life, from relationships to job performance. And while there are many effective treatments available, they don’t work for everyone.

Coffee may help boost your mood and fend off depression. Studies revealed that people who drank four or more cups of coffee a day were 53 percent less likely to commit suicide than those who didn’t drink any coffee at all.

And another study found that women who drank two to three cups of coffee a day were 20 percent less likely to experience depression.

It May Lower Your Risk of Heart Disease

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States, and coffee may help lower your risk. Studies have found that people who drank one cup of coffee a day had a 14 percent lower risk of heart disease than those who didn’t drink any coffee.
