Is Slowing Down The Aging Process Achievable?

Aging is associated with changes that take place within the body of a living thing and largely speaking it is attributed to a combination of behavioral, biological, social, physiological and psychological progressions. The evident changes caused by aging comprise of greying of hair, wrinkles and fine lines, decline in physical activity etc. Aging also paves way for a number of different chronic diseases to occur, which only adds to further deterioration of the human body.

According to National Institute of Aging, experts are now testing out if the aging process can be slowed down. By using mice as test subjects they are now able to explain what leads to aging and how it can be slowed down. Doing this has not only allowed them to find out if aging can be manipulated, but about the impact of aging on the human immune system as far as chronic diseases, so the human body doesn’t lose its strength as the age increases.

Scientificamerican.com also says that ‘reverse aging’ is now possible and by testing this out on mice, they have been able to find out it is indeed possible if some changes are made in genetic activity. The experiment of reversing or undoing the aforementioned genetic activity allows adult cells to restore to their embryonic phase, which contributes towards an extended life and might also help in recovering from a potentially fatal injury. This experiment has only been done on mice so far and with positive results that have been achieved, experts believe they can carry out the same tests on human subjects and obtain the same positive results. The senior expert who is currently researching further into the matter, Juan Carlos, believes aging can easily be manipulated with the help of a few ‘tweaks’ in four main genes. These genes are known as Yamanaka factors and by tweaking these genes, damaged muscles in a mid-aged mouse were rejuvenated so that it ended up gaining an additional life span of 30 years. Also they believe this reverse aging process is epigenetic and can be tried on a test subject of any age, rather than a middle aged one. However, it is speculated this lab-based genetic rejuvenation cannot induce changes upon age-related chronic diseases.

Now, let’s keep all the experimental-talk aside and discuss if slowing down or reversing the aging is achievable for everybody. Of course, you cannot make genetic tweaks to look younger. But, you can change your own habits by making a few ‘tweaks’ to your daily routine. Below we are going to discuss the best ways through which you can slow down the aging process and look your best as you put on years:

  1. You can begin by getting rid of any addiction you may have. If you drink or smoke, you can see a therapist to help you find your way back. Keep your habits healthy so your lungs and liver can function better for a longer period of time.
  2. Get sufficient sleep. Just push aside anything that’s been causing you to lose your sleep and rest. Lack of sleep can cause forgetfulness which old people suffer from. Your body needs a reboot every day and by getting enough sleep you can achieve that.
  3. Better eating habits are another way to keep yourself look younger. Cut fat from your diet and reduce the red-meat intake. Your body needs vegetables to stay and feel younger, so you must include plenty of those. Incorporate healthy nutrients into your diet which you can get from fish like salmon and mackerel. Experts believe these fish help in reverse-aging as they enhance cell renewal in our body.
  4. The study on rats which we discussed above, showed signs of improved health and slower aging also because of a 30% calorie restriction. A controlled and manageable body weight adds to body’s functionality as well as its longevity.
  5. Another huge factor that causes human body to age quickly is the lack of nutrients. You can make up for the missing nutrients in your body by increasing the intake of supplements. Be sure to incorporate multivitamins into your diet inclusive of vitamin D3, Alpha Lipoic Acid and Vitamin C. With these you can keep the signs of aging away from your body for a longer period.

What we think?

Aging is unavoidable. Thus reaching the old age with a healthy body should be your goal. By maintaining a healthy routine you can improve your body’s functionality, stay away from chronic diseases and moreover, be content with your life. We’ve let you in, on some ways through which you can slow the aging process, but you can always find out more about it over the internet. In just a few clicks you can locate  an endless number of workouts, recipes and activities which will help you remain younger for a longer time. But for that, you will need a Hughesnet Gen 5  connection, and a positive mind with an attitude that says “yes I can!”
