Fun and Engaging Activities For Kids With Autism Spectrum Disorder That Will Make Them Happy

The human brain is a very complex and beautiful mush of wrinkles. We do not understand it, or in other words, our brains do not understand themselves. We know a lot of the basics, and these key principles are important for understanding anything higher. The tricky thing is, how to explore something if it is so different in every single human? Understanding other organs is tough but completely possible.

How are we to understand consciousness if we are yet to understand what are our thoughts? How do molecular cascades translate into us feeling an emotion? Autism spectrum disorder (ASD for short) is an excellent example of us just not understanding it. People live with it perfectly fine, but can we call them different, or are we the ones that are different? Why should children with different ways of thinking not have access to being happy?

Understanding ASD

ASD is becoming a more prevalent topic and more people are talking about it. This is great because there is nothing taboo about this condition that many people are feeling. This is why it is important to find the latest autism statistics, in order to better understand and talk about it. Our every mood and every thought are regulated at a molecular level. Our thoughts and emotions are closely related to reward centers in the brain.

Everyone is unique, and thus everyone has unique reward centers in their brain. For people who have ASD, these centers that are related to understanding emotions, speech, and other characteristics are different. You enjoy one type of music, someone else enjoys another type of music. People with ASD have a different perspective on this world not because they are sick or damaged, but just because they are different like you are different. Everyone has a unique way of thinking, so there is no reason to think that ASD is something different.

The right approach

ASD is a pretty broad spectrum and thus it is very hard to find one right universal approach. When it comes to kids with ASD, it can be tough sometimes to talk to them. There is nothing wrong with acknowledging this because kids generally can not talk very well. It can be hard for parents to know what they are dealing with and how to engage with their children. This is why patience is most important when playing with a kid with ASD.

Be patient, and understand that everyone is different, and not everyone thinks like you. It is very important to never put pressure on a kid with ASD and tell them to ‘’act normal’’. Never tell them to act like other kids, but also never try to treat them as a ‘’special child’’. You need the right balance of patience, acceptance, and not treating them like they are stupid. There will be scenarios when playing with them that can be hard to handle. This is why it is important to be patient and calm in order to not make this a bad experience for a kid with ASD.

Sharing experience

All kids are pretty curious and want to know more about their surroundings. This is why sharing experiences and telling stories are very engaging activities for kids with ASD. By telling stories, you can watch their reaction and better understand how they view them. When you tell a story or share an experience, you ask the child to do the same. Some children may not like it at first, or they can feel stressed from such an influx of information.

This is why patience is very important when doing this activity. If they do not like it, you should never pressure them into sharing. When they share a story or an experience, never go too hard with the questions. It is good to ask them, but never try to make it stressful for them because they will remember it. You can make this activity even more entertaining if you can add a layer to the story with some audio or visual effects.

Sensory games

Children with ASD have a very unique way of feeling emotions and stimuli. This is why it is important to let them feel this world and experience what they want. Sensory games and fidgeting devices are a very good way of letting them feel something. From very simple things like beads in water or slime to fidget cubes, you can find anything. Science experiments are especially great for demonstrating something new to watch.

From simple volcano experiments to science fairs, you can take them and see the beauty of science. By doing so, you may find out that your kid is very interested in science. More and more prodigies are being diagnosed with ASD. These prodigies are usually famous artists or mathematicians, but there are other fields of arts and sciences. Why not try out showing them a bit of chemistry and physics? Why not encourage them to write a journal of how they view the world?

Their passion

Every kid has their own unique passion and fascination in life. It is very important to see what they enjoy and support their dreams and wishes. Again, never try to make this into some sort of competition and force them to be a prodigy. They are your kids, that is what makes them special and precious like every child.

It is great that more people are taking this topic seriously and talking about ASD openly. Only through such discussions and understanding can we progress into a brighter future. Children represent our future, and every child is unique and precious. This is why it is important to make them happy and enjoy this world. They were never asked to be born, so let’s welcome them into something beautiful.

By encouraging this diversity, we can truly create a very beautiful world. Just imagine this world and nature if there were just a few types of plants and animals. And those are just the life forms that we can see with our bare eyes, with our human eyes. Life is much more than just what our two eyeballs observe around us. This is why we should always understand and talk to not only kids with ASD, but everyone, because that is what makes the world go around.
