5 Dieting Tips for the Working Mother

If a healthy diet and lifestyle seem like a pre-baby memory, you’ve come to the right place. As a working mom, you have a lot of demands on your time. To help you reach your health goals, we’ve rounded up five easy-to-follow dieting tips.

From getting more sleep to cutting out late-night wine and snacks, these tips will help you look and feel your best. It’s time to start making yourself a priority again.

1. Try a Keto Diet

As a working mother, it’s tempting to reach for comforting carbs when you’re tired, hungry, and running on empty. With a keto diet, however, your body reaches a state where it burns fat for energy instead of carbs.

Removing or limiting carbs from your diet will help you burn fat. Instead of a bagel, reach for an avocado or almonds. These foods are high in fat and energy.

2. Get More Sleep

While you may think sleep is only for people without children, think again. The days where you get eight hours of sleep don’t have to be an illusion. Sleep is one of the key factors in any diet.

Sleep allows your body to reset and recharge. When you have little kids and a big career it can be difficult to feel like you’re getting enough sleep. Flip the switch and make sleep a priority.

Start by going to bed a little earlier each day. You may not be able to control when your kids wake up but you should have more control over when you go to sleep.

Make sure you leave your devices away from your bed. While it’s tempting to turn on the TV and grab a glass of wine or unhealthy snack, skip it. You and your diet will do better with more sleep.

3. Make Fitness a Priority (With Your Littles If You Have To)

Fitness is another key to a successful diet. With little kids and work demanding your attention, it can be easy to skip a workout. Make fitness a priority and you’ll see your diet efforts pay off.

If you need to, incorporate your kids into your workout. Invest in a running stroller and hit the trails for a fun run with your little one. Walk more places instead of driving. Do workout classes online at home in your kids’ playroom or before they wake up.

Yoga is great for kids. Doing a kid’s yoga video will boost both of your physical activity levels. It’s also great for kids to see their parents making physical fitness a priority.

4. Cut the Take-Out

As busy parents, take-out is the path of least resistance. It’s so easy to pick up the phone and order take-out or delivery. Any diet requires a little work upfront to make sure you have the groceries you need.

Subscribing to healthy meal prep plans will help alleviate the dilemma of what’s for dinner. There’s no excuse for take-out when you get home if you have a meal ready to go. The same goes for pre-packed lunches.

5. Stick to Unprocessed Foods

Processed foods will kill any diet. Stick to whole, fresh foods whenever possible. Keeping these in your fridge will make it a lot easier.

Get rid of processed snacks and foods to avoid temptation. While it’s OK to treat yourself, keeping treats out of the house will make it harder to do every day.

Dieting Tips for the Working Mother

Dieting tips as a working mother don’t need to involve crash diets and unhealthy habits. The best tips for losing weight and improving your health involve lifestyle changes.

A healthy diet will be more successful with more sleep and physical fitness. It’s tough for mothers to make themselves a priority but now is the time. For more eating and fitness tips, check out the lifestyle section.
