Top Ways To Make Your Hair Look Healthier And Thicker

Your hair is your crowning glory. It defines your personality, enhances your looks, and helps you stand out in the crowd. The way your hair looks is primarily determined by your genes, however, there are several things that you can do to improve its quality and look. This article gives an insight into eight top ways through which you can make your hair look healthier and thicker:

Consider Hair Extensions

There are so many good reasons to go for hair extensions if you’re struggling to grow your hair out. Quality extensions can be styled, treated, brushed, and washed as if they were your natural locks. As such, you should consider investing in this option as an easy way to make your hair look better as well as help your natural tresses grow stronger and healthier over time.

You can opt-out out of several different methods of hair extensions, such as clip-ins and tape-ins. Clip-in extensions aren’t as secure or permanent as their stick-on counterparts, but they can be taken out and put back in very easily. On the other hand, as seen at spectrumonehair.com, tape-in extensions are more of a semi-permanent option and tend to last longer. They will also give your hair a more natural appearance and blend in with your natural locks way better.

Use Moisture Rich Shampoo And Conditioner

Proper hair care involves cleansing and conditioning your hair to remove dirt, grime, dust, and product build-up. A good shampoo will clean your hair without making it dry or frizzy whereas a great conditioner will smooth it down and hydrate it from the roots to the tips. Try using moisture-rich shampoos if you have fine hair as these products are thick in consistency and don’t weigh your hair down.

Also, thermal protectants found in high-quality shampoos prevent the heat from styling tools from further damaging or drying out your hair. Therefore, next time you go shopping for a new shampoo, look for one that contains moisture-rich ingredients such as shea butter, aloe vera, coconut oil, olive oil, argan oil, jojoba oil, cocoa butter, or green tea. These will protect your follicles and add much-needed moisture to any strands that may be becoming brittle.

Use A Deep Conditioner Once A Week

Even the best conditioner won’t be as effective as it should be if you don’t deep condition your strands once a week. A deep conditioning treatment will hydrate your hair and make sure that all your hard work in finding the best shampoo and conditioner doesn’t go to waste. The best way to do this is to apply the product, cover your head with a shower cap, and leave it on for at least 1 hour before rinsing it off with lukewarm water.

If you don’t have time to wait for a deep conditioning treatment, applying your usual conditioner and covering your hair with a shower cap before you hop in the shower will do the trick. The heat from the water will activate the products and infuse them into every strand allowing your hair to stay hydrated at all times.

Use Heat Protectants And Avoid Blow Drying Your Hair Every Day

Heat protectant sprays and serums are a great investment for anyone who straightens their hair often because they shield your hair from high temperatures and help to maintain its natural shine for longer periods. These products usually come in the form of a spray or hair serum, so you can easily apply them to damp or dry hair. Once applied, your strands will be protected from damage caused by flat irons and curling wands up until around 230°C (446°F).

Heat protectant sprays and serums aren’t just limited to when you style your hair, though. These products should also be used before blow-drying your hair to protect your strands from the heat of the dryer. If you prefer to air dry your locks, make sure that you tie them up in a towel instead of letting them air dry flat on a surface. Air drying your hair can cause breakage and split ends if it isn’t done properly, so avoid any unnecessary stress by using either one of these methods before allowing your hair to do its thing.

Don’t Overwash Your Hair

Overwashing your hair strips it of the natural oils that are needed to keep your roots moisturized and healthy. The more often you wash your hair, the faster sebum production will be which will lead to greasy strands that are weighed down by product buildup besides being susceptible to breakage. If you want thicker, bouncier locks, wash them three times a week at most and only use clarifying shampoo for an extra cleanse when necessary instead of spending time doing so every other day.

If you know that you have a problem with greasy hair, try going every other day instead. If you used to wash your hair daily and then cut down the frequency of washing it, your scalp will adjust to this change in due time and produce less sebum. This can take anywhere from a couple of weeks to a few months depending on how often you shampooed your hair before making the switch.

Don’t Brush Your Hair When It’s Wet

When wet, your hair is very susceptible to breaking so brushing could cause more harm than good especially if you don’t use the proper technique when doing so. The best way to prevent breakage is by using a wide-toothed comb instead of a brush and only using it to detangle your hair when it’s dry.

To avoid breakage, you should also wait at least an hour after washing your hair before brushing it so that the cuticles of your strands have time to lay flat. Many people prefer not to comb their wet hair at all, but this isn’t necessary if you are gentle with the process. You can either use a wide-toothed comb or fingers instead of a brush on wet strands.

Whether you’re growing your hair out or you’re trying to add more volume to it, you must treat your locks properly. With these tips in mind, you’ll be on your way to having fuller, thicker hair that will make you feel more confident about yourself. Just remember that these changes don’t happen overnight and some may take longer than others for you to see true results. Just follow the tips as closely as possible and be patient with your hair as it gets healthier day by day.
