A Quick Camping Trip Checklist: Everything You Need to Bring

Did you know that 14% of Americans go camping every year?

It’s a fun family or friends activity that allows you to escape the stress of everyday life and embrace nature and the outdoors. You don’t want to leave anything behind when you go camping and you want to be prepared for the great outdoors.

Keep reading and we will walk you through a quick camping trip checklist.

Camping Essentials

You want to start with everything you will need to set up your tent, where you will be sleeping and living throughout your stay. You will need a:

  • Tent
  • Stakes
  • Tarp
  • Sleeping bag or air mattress
  • Pillows
  • Flashlight
  • Camp chairs
  • Lighter
  • Doormat

These are all the basic first camping trip needs because the first thing you will do is find a spot to set up camp and set up your tents. You want to make sure you bring flashlights, lanterns, or good camping lights.

You can find outdoor lighting at Barebones Living. They have great portable beacon hanging lights that can last for 200+ hours on low battery, which is exactly what you need.

Expect the Unexpected

When you’re thinking about how to pack, you should always be prepared for any situation when you’re sleeping in the woods.

You should bring some versatile tools that you can use to make do if something goes wrong. These tools include:

  • Pocket knife
  • Duct tape
  • Scissors
  • Bungee cords
  • Hammer
  • Tent pole repair sleeve

You can do a lot with duct tape and bungee cords, and can quickly repair a broken tent pole or rip in your tent. You will be ready for anything.

Cooking and Personal Items

You don’t want to bring your entire kitchen camping, but you will want to make sure you have necessities so that you can make meals in the woods. You will need:

  • Camp stove (with fuel)
  • Cooler
  • Water bottles
  • Plates and bowls
  • Cutlery
  • Ice
  • Towels
  • Garbage bags
  • Cleaning supplies

You should make sure you bring things you can grill and snacks, such as burgers, hot dogs, chips, granola bars, fruits, and vegetables. You want to keep the food and kitchen supplies to a minimum and make sure you keep everything locked away to avoid animals.

Did you know that 54% of people travel less than 100 miles from home to go camping? Even so, you don’t want to be running home for anything.

You need to pack personal items as well, such as your toothbrush, toothpaste, face wash, a phone, portable charger, sunscreen, insect repellent, a first aid kit, and lots of layers.

Depending on the weather you will want to bring lots of blankets, coats, and sweaters or if it’s warm shorts, swimsuits, and t-shirts.

Camping Trip Checklist

Run through your camping trip checklist and make sure that you have everything from setting up your tent supplies to kitchen and food necessities and lastly, personal items.

You want to make sure to pack for the unexpected so you’re prepared for any situation but also not bring too much where you’re lugging most of your kitchen through the woods.
