Npe Lagos Asiapereztechcrunch: A lot of work goes into making a startup successful, but the cost of failure can be profound. We don’t just mean the time and money that startups take to build-up and grow, but also the people who venture all that hard work. In this blog, we explore what happens when a company decides to shut down and lay off its employees in order to move onto other opportunities.

When companies make a decision to close their doors, they face a lot of different repercussions. The most obvious is the financial loss, when an organization stops paying salaries and benefits to its employees. Alongside that financial loss is also emotional pain and suffering to everyone involved. When companies make a decision to close their doors, they face a lot of different repercussions. The most obvious is the financial loss, when an organization stops paying salaries and benefits to its employees. Alongside that financial loss is also emotional pain and suffering to everyone involved. It’s not uncommon for employees to feel like they’ve lost part of their identity or have been betrayed by their employers.

While being laid off isn’t a pleasant experience for everyone, some startups have decided it’s best to shut down rather than continue supporting their workers.

Startups that shut down often choose to simply close the doors and leave their staff to find work elsewhere. Another option is for employees to be laid off in groups. Companies may lay off individuals at the same time or workers may be let go in stages. Sometimes startups will take a bit longer than normal to make their decision to cut losses, but eventually it’s inevitable they have no choice but to end their relationship with some of their workers.

In Sweden, one startup decided to take the last option and cut off all ties with its employees. The company, which was a recruitment agency for global talent, laid off all 232 of its employees in a single wave. The move came as the result of disappointing results from global hiring practices. The company was unable to turn around results in time and eventually decided to close its doors.

It’s not uncommon to see companies hire more employees than they need in order to have them ready for incoming business. This practice is common among startups that are fairly new and still have a lot of growing to do. If a company doesn’t get the results it needs, it may be forced to lay off some workers. Layoffs are generally not too much of a problem for companies since startups find it easier to recruit talent as needed instead of having a large staff on standby.

While many would feel the loss of their organization, employees who are laid off are obviously going through a hard time. It’s not uncommon for an employee to feel helpless and stressed about the future. Layoffs involve being let go from a job or company and often times this is accompanied by an abrupt shift in lifestyle.

In the age of social media, it’s easy to find all kinds of information about those who have been let go, and sometimes even share stories with their friends and followers on social media.
