7 Industrial Safety Training Tips to Follow: How to Protect Workers

Industrial safety is under attack. More than 5,300 workers died due to accidents on the job in 2019. Every two hours, a worker died.

You must follow good workplace safety tips in order to keep everyone safe. Yet it can be hard to know where to begin.

What sorts of training should you offer your employees? What are some of the most dangerous hazards? What should you do in terms of mental health?

Answer these questions and you can avoid horrible injuries at your workplace. Here are seven tips you should follow today.

1. Conduct Workplace Inspections

A supervisor should check in with each worker every day. As they are checking in, they should do a quick scan of the work area. They should remove hazards that could cause a fall, vehicle accident, or fire. They should ensure that all fireproofing measures are in check.

A more formal workplace inspection should occur at least once a month. The inspector should discipline employees who pose a safety risk to others.

2. Mandate Safety Training

Workplace safety training should accompany industrial training. When you train an employee to use a piece of machinery, you should train them on safety techniques.

You should incorporate evacuation drills into your training as well. You can refer your employees to online safety training resources, but they should take live classes.

3. Provide Personal Protective Equipment

You must provide hard hats, gloves, and safety glasses at a minimum. If your industrial industry requires tools that make sparks, you should also provide flame-resistant clothing. Vests and long-sleeved shirts may be enough.

4. Monitor Equipment Use

Anyone who wants to use a piece of moving equipment must receive certification to do so. No visitor to your facility can climb on the equipment, let alone use it.

You should ask every person who uses a forklift to sign it out. This lets you monitor who is responsible for what and where the equipment is.

5. Focus on Fire Hazards

If you must focus on a few particular workplace hazards, you should focus on fire hazards. Separate combustible substances from sources of heat and flame. Mark fire exits with bright signs and keep the paths to them clear.

6. Allow Workers to Take Breaks

All workers should have plenty of time to eat lunch and drink water. You should also allow your workers to grab a cup of coffee or a snack when they feel tired. This will allow them to refuel their bodies and remain attentive.

7. Remember Mental Health

Mental health is just as important as physical health. Encourage your employees to get plenty of rest and sleep. Ask them to go to a mental health counselor if they have signs of mental illnesses.

How to Ensure Industrial Safety

You can promote industrial safety through no-nonsense gestures. Conduct workplace inspections that remove health hazards immediately. Require all employees to go through safety training.

Offer personal protective equipment that protects the eyes and skin. Watch how your employees use big rigs and moving tools like forklifts.

Get rid of all fire hazards. Promote attentiveness by allowing your workers to take breaks when they feel tired. Give them resources like counselors if they need mental health support.
