The recent announcement from PerimeterX and Human Security merges with the aim of disrupting bots and automated fraud. It has been reported that, with the huge number of bot accounts on social media platforms, many cases of fraud have come to light. It is unfortunately no surprise that bots are now at the forefront of online fraud.
Seeing two companies working together to combat something of this scale should be an inspiration to other companies out there. I think it’s great news and something I wish would happen more often.
Social media fraud is a massive problem for all of us who use social media. Do you feel this merger will help reduce these fraudulent activities?
Quite simply, yes. PerimeterX and Human Security are both companies that are well respected in the industry and have the capabilities to effectively deal with issues they share. As I mentioned in the first question, we need to see more companies coming together like this to tackle issues they all have in common.
How will this merger effect anyone who uses social media?
It will most likely decrease the time it takes to deal with fraudulent activity. Data is one of the main tools used by cybercriminals today, and both PerimeterX and Human Security helps with improving digital security through data analysis. I believe that their skills are a perfect combination, making their combined efforts priceless.
It seems like a lot of the big social media companies are on the same page regarding bot and automated fraud. What do you think it is going to take for them to address this issue?
Just as there are many different factors that cause fraud, I believe there are many different methods that can be used to tackle it. The best way to tackle this issue is for all companies to work together, rather than each company trying to solve each problem themselves.
Criminals are using new technologies and strategies to commit fraud every day. How will this merger help protect against these new advancements?
By combining the knowledge, experience and techniques from both companies, it will be easier to predict and prevent online fraud. Both companies have a lot of experience in the field of data analysis, so the information shared between them can only benefit consumers in the long run.
One of our readers is interested in a career dealing with bot and automated fraud. What can she do to start a career within this field?
I would recommend speaking with companies that use automation and bots on their platforms regularly. Social media platforms are constantly adapting their policies and practises to make sure they are on the right track when it comes to dealing with automated accounts. You can always contact PerimeterX or Human Security if you want to learn more about the job market in this field.
