How to Create a Strong Password: A Quick Guide

Password security is a big deal these days. Did you know that sixty percent of people admit to reusing the same passwords on multiple sites?

With more people using social media, cloud storage, email accounts, etc., it’s been easier for hackers to get their hands on your personal information. One way to protect yourself is with a strong password.

So, how do you create strong passwords? This guide will go over some tips on how to create a strong password that is not only secure but easy enough for you to remember!

Use a Combination of Characters

One of the easiest things you can do is to use a combination of different types of characters. Use upper case letters, lower case letters, numbers, and symbols in your password (e.g., !@#$%^&*).  If someone gets access to one account with a weak/easy password, they might be able to gain access to others as well.

Creating this type of combination offers information protection and data protection. When you create a password using this combination, you make a cybercriminal’s job harder because your password isn’t so easy to figure out.

Always Change Your Passwords

So many people make the mistake of creating a password once and never wanting to change it. You finally know what it is, and you don’t want to have to remember a new one. While that is understandable, it’s not realistic when it comes to protecting your information.

If you don’t want to change your password every 30 days, you should at least change it every six months, and that’s pushing it. Don’t use something generic or easy to figure out. Make up something unique.

Don’t use the same passwords across all your accounts – that makes them less secure! If someone gets access to one account with a weak/easy password, they might be able to gain access to others as well.

How to Create a Strong Password: Longer Is Better

It’s easy to remember a shorter password, but that also makes you vulnerable to hackers. When creating passwords, make them long, but don’t forget that you will need to remember how you created them! Try creating a strong password using logmeonce.com.

Try not to use personal information like your birthday, address, phone #, or pet’s name in passwords because these can easily be found on social media profiles online. Avoid using words that can be found in the dictionary or phrases you might find on social media sites like Facebook or Twitter.

Keep Your Information Safe and Secure

Keep all of the above in mind when you’re thinking about how to create a strong password. While it may seem impossible to remember all your passwords, you can look into getting a password management tool and see which one might work best for you.

These not only save your passwords in one location but also provide password creation, so you don’t have to sit tirelessly wondering what to create or master the art of memory.
