It’s been a long time since we all worked in an office outside our homes. Ever since early 2020, when everyone around the world began to hunker down and wait for the pandemic to pass, it’s been Casual Friday every day of the week. Even if you had a great business suit with a matching skirt and blazer, you’ve probably been wearing a whole lot more joggers lately. Pandemic hair and beards also proliferated, with everyone going for a shaggy style and long locks reaching to your waist or shoulders. Jewelry? What’s that? Not something you wear to work in 2020, certainly.
Nowadays, though, skirts, jewelry, and haircuts are making a comeback. The pandemic is far from over (the Delta variant has global markets on high alert), but cities around the world are beginning to open up. London looks like business-as-usual, and New York is following right behind. With all of this happening, you’re going to be donning a sheath dress and looking at your LCD monitor before long. Are you less than enthusiastic about this move office-wards? If so, read on for a few tips that may help you get excited about computer monitors and mousepads.
Hooray! Finally, no more Zoom meetings.
Zoom meetings are, in a word, abhorrent. Even if you invested in full HD refurbished monitors from reliable companies like Acer or Lenovo for your home office, sitting for hours in front of a widescreen view of your colleagues is dull as ditchwater. Buying refurbished is smart—you get the same great Intel core, full HD, and screen size you’d get with new computer monitors. Still, though, with in-person meetings, you could at least doodle in notebooks while your boss droned on and on about and requested URL options and prior purchases, but on Zoom your face is, quite literally, in their face. It’s not great. Now, though, you can listen to reports about terms of credit without being on display.
You can finally wear that cute dress.
Admit it—you want to wear that cute dress with the floral print, and you have absolutely no excuse to do so. Well, congratulations! Now you have a reason. Pair that floral print with the colorful hem-line with some fun accessories and you’ll be gathering compliments left and right as you swagger between the cubicles.
Science says that we actually love our commutes.
Ever since we stopped spending hours of our time and hundreds of U.S. dollars on commuting back and forth to the office, you’d think we’d be happier, right? Not so! Studies show that people have actually been missing their commutes during the era of the pandemic. Actually, there’s a rise in people creating “fake commutes” for themselves, as a way of separating their home lives from their office lives. With that in mind, maybe the length of your bus or train ride isn’t so bad for you after all.
Show off your fabulous pandemic curves.
While some folks have been encouraging workers to lose the COVID 15 (pounds) in order to get an “office-bod,” many other advocates have called out that language for its fat-phobic bent. As far as putting on a few more pounds during isolation, well, maybe heading back to the office is a great opportunity to flaunt your newfound curves. Who says one body type is the only one that’s gorgeous? Wear a garment that gives you confidence. When it comes down to it, after all, an office-bod is really just a body that’s in an office. Make sure that, if you’re headed back to your LCD monitor for any length of time, you feel great about yourself when you’re doing so. As long as you’re excited, that’s all that matters.
