In one of Trump’s tweet on Jan. 7, 2017, he stated that: “Thank you to Kimberly-Clark and the great people of Ohio.” The tweet was accompanied by a photo of people holding up signs thanking the company for its jobs.

However, not everyone was happy about having a president who promoted a product. On the other hand, supporters saw this as an opportunity for positive PR for Dove. That’s why in an interview with Adweek , Dove posted a video on its official Twitter account thanking the president for promoting their brand.

Nordstrom

In October 2016, Trump tweeted that his daughter Ivanka had been treated unfairly on Twitter due to her business involvement with Nordstrom’s and claimed it was because of her support of him and her father’s political stance.

Nordstrom’s posted a tweet on Feb. 2, 2017 that they would no longer be carrying Ivanka Trump’s brand.

Many people took this as retaliation to Trump’s tweet even though he stated that he did not direct his followers to boycott the store. Nordstrom’s also stated in the statement they posted with their new decision that they were dropping Ivanka Trump due to decline in sales and will reallocate resources in carrying different brands.

Saddam Hussein’s Birthday

Trump tweeted on his birthday that all of the stock in the Iraqi Government, which was once owned by Saddam Hussein, should be sold off. This was to show how much he hated Hussein, who the U.S. spent a lot of money to attempt to remove from power.

In the U.S., the go-to way to get back at a president for a negative tweet is by boycotting their product, so this tweet’s impact was rather minimal. However, because of his popularity in certain countries, this event led to others being forced to cancel his birthday celebrations. Hitler’s birthday was also celebrated in Germany and Australia because of how unpopular he was back then.
