6 Tips for Working with The High-Effort Leader

High-effort leaders who know leadership coaching in Sydney are a much-needed and valuable resource. They’re energetic, enthusiastic, and proactive in their approach to leadership. They’re always thinking about how they can improve their organization, and they take initiative by implementing changes that will help them achieve their goals. The high-effort leader is the person who never gives up. A high-effort leader will work tirelessly to get the job done, and they inspire others to do the same.

But there are some pitfalls to working with a high-effort leader. They can be too intense and demand too much from their team. Here are 6 tips for working with the high-effort leader:

1.   Be patient

High-effort leaders can be very productive in the short term, but they struggle to sustain their efforts over time. If you give them enough time and space, they will eventually come through on whatever promise they made — but expect multiple delays along the way!

Don’t micromanage them or hold them accountable for every little thing they do or don’t do. If you’re too hard on them, they’ll feel like they’re being punished for being less productive than they might want to be — which will only make things worse.

2.   Recognize that you’re not alone

It’s easy for high-effort leaders to feel like they’re the only ones in the office working this hard. But if you’re feeling overwhelmed by your workload, it’s likely that others are too. This recognition will help you feel less alone with your struggles and encourage you to speak up about them when needed.

3.   Focus on priorities

As a high-effort leader, it’s easy for things like meetings and emails to take over your day. They’re important tasks, but if they take up all of your time, then you won’t have enough time left over for more important tasks such as strategic planning or improving processes. Make sure that you set aside time each day for these activities so that they don’t get neglected in favor of urgent tasks such as responding to emails quickly or attending meetings.

4.   Be approachable

This one is easy — just be nice to people! It’s not as hard as you think, but it does take effort and practice. Don’t hide out in your office or behind your computer screen all day; get out there and talk to people. If someone needs help, offer it freely without making them feel like they’re burdening you with their problems. It takes a lot less energy than you think!

5.   Give feedback generously and often (but not always)

As a manager or executive, you’re going to spend much more time giving feedback than receiving it — but that doesn’t mean that your employees aren’t expecting some form of recognition from you now and then! Make sure there are opportunities for them to give feedback too (and listen carefully when they do so), but try not to get bogged down in meetings where everyone just wants to complain about each other’s performance issues.

6.   Let them shine

High-effort leaders often feel like they have to prove themselves constantly by working harder than anyone else on the team. This can lead to burnout and resentment among their peers — especially if they’re not getting promoted or receiving recognition for all of their hard work. The best way to deal with this situation is by giving them opportunities to show off their skills and talents in front of important decision-makers within your company.
