As a DJ, you’ve probably never considered working at a silent disco, right?
Silent discos may not have loud music blasting throughout the building, but many of them still have professional DJs! The silent party experience isn’t truly silent. Music plays through silent disco headphones so everyone can enjoy it in their own way without disturbing others.
With this in mind, why not give DJing at a silent disco party a try?
Not sure how to make it work? Let’s talk about it! Keep reading for our tip tips for DJs who want to try playing at a silent disco.
1. Get Ready For a Challenge
There’s a huge difference between a silent disco and a standard party when it comes to the roles of the DJs: they’re in competition.
Sure, this isn’t a true competition per se, but there is going to be at least one other DJ there spinning music for guests. You’re only the “winner” if you keep guests listening to your channel.
This is going to require extra effort on your part. You’re going to need to learn how to engage your guests and stop them from changing the channel.
Now, this isn’t to say that you can’t team up with the other DJs. If you’re not up for a competition, why not discuss your music choices beforehand so everyone plays a different genre?
2. Think Outside of The Box
Because a silent disco is different, you’re going to have to DJ differently.
At a normal party, you have a captive audience. You’re the only person playing and you can play whatever you like. If there’s a dud in your mix, people will likely still stay on the dance floor.
In a silent disco, people can turn off their headphones to talk to their friends. They can also change the channel.
Go out of your way to choose tracks that are the best of the best. Consider telling the partygoers that they’re welcome to make requests so you keep up your music momentum all night long.
3. Bring Extra Headphones
Everyone is going to need headphones at a silent disco. Some people may have their own Bluetooth headphones, but it’s best to have some on-hand for people who can’t bring them (or for people who break theirs). Remember, not everyone has been to a silent disco before, so they may not know what they have to bring.
Headphones are essential at a silent disco, so if someone is unable to use theirs, the party is over for them. Don’t let that happen on your watch! Rent extra headphones from a supplier like partyheadphones.com to keep the party going.
DJing at Silent Discos Can Be Fun
DJing at silent discos is an altogether different experience, but it can still be a lot of fun for DJs and partygoers alike. Enjoy your silent party experience and be sure to keep these tips in mind when you’re spinning your favorite tracks!
